American Express Gold Updated Benefits

The American Express Gold card is the best card on the market for everything food related as it earns 4x points on dining and grocery store purchases. In addition to these awesome speding categories, there are a ton of great benefits and statement credits you can earn that can more than offset the $325 annual fee.

There are a few updates to these benefits but are nothing to be alarmed about. Amex is simply updating some of their partners that you can earn credits from, adding status with Hertz, and increasing points earned on Amex Travel airline bookings.

Dining Credit Partners Changing

Amex Gold is adding Buffalo Wild Wings and Wonder as new partners to use your $120 annual dining credit. As of July 1st, 2026, Goldbelly and Wine.com will no longer be partners. There are no changes to Grubhub and Seamless, Five Guys, and The Cheesecake Factory.

Earn 5x Points on AmexTravel

Cardmembers can now earn 5x points on prepaid hotels booked through AmexTravel.com up from 2x points. This is a nice addition but won’t change the way I book hotels currently.

Hertz Five Star Status

Having status with a car rental company is great to have. It allows you to skip the line and go straight to your car as well as getting free upgrades. While not as great as Hertz Presidents Circle you get with the Amex Platinum, this is still a nice perk. Enrollment is required.

Wrapping Up

These changes aren’t the most earth shattering but I’m glad we’re not seeing any real benefits taken away or the annual fee going up. This could benefit some people or hurt them depending on if you care about the dining partners.
