Review: New Atmos Rewards Summit Card
Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines are merging and recently announced their new, combined loyalty program called Atmos. With that announcement came the introduction of their new premium credit card which could be one of the most exciting new airline credit cards on the market in as long as I can remember. There are a ton of great perks and some intriguing bonus categories that make this card a keeper.
New Atmos Rewards Summit
Quick Facts
Signup Bonus: 100,000 Atmos Rewards points after spending $6,000 in the first 90 days. I value Atmos Rewards at 1.5 cents each so that’s the equivalent of a $1,500 bonus.
Points Earned: Summit Rewards points which can be used on Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, or any of their 32 partners around the world.
Earnings Structure:
3x points on Alaska Airlines or Hawaiian Airlines purchases
3x points on dining
3x points on all foreign transactions
1x points on everything else
10% bonus on all points earned if you have a qualifying Bank of America account.
Foreign Transaction Fees: None
Annual Fee: $395
3x Points on Foreign Transactions
3x points on Alaska and Hawaiian purchases as well as dining purchases isn’t too compelling however, earning 3x points on all foreign transactions is very interesting. When traveling abroad I always recommend using the Capital One Venture X to get double miles on all purchases without foreign transaction fees. However, with the new Atmos Rewards Summit, earning 3x points on foreign transactions makes this the better card.
25k and 100k Point Companion Certificates
Just for having the card, you get a 25,000 point companion certificate each year. When you go to use your points for flights on Alaska or ANY of their partners worldwide, you will receive a 25,000 point discount on a booking with two or more passengers. This alone more than justifies the annual fee.
If you spend $60,000 on this card in a year you will also receive a 100,000 point companion certificate. This is the equivalent of earning an additional 1.67 points per dollar.
With both of these companion certificates, it is just a discount on the cost of the second passengers ticket so I would not use them for flights under their value unless they are going to expire which they do 12 months after they are issued.
Lounge Passes and Wifi Passes
Each year you’ll receive 8 Alaska Airlines lounge passes and 8 Wifi passes. 2 of each will be deposited into your account each quarter.
Both of these passes will expire at the end of each quarter so be sure to use them! To use the lounge passes, you do have to be flying on Alaska Airlines same day and they are valid for one adult and one child.
Free Checked Bag Benefit
You and up to 6 companions will receive free checked bags when purchasing your Alaska Airlines flight with the card.
Instant Travel Delay Credit
If the primary cardholder experiences a flight cancellation or a delay of more than 2 hours they will receive an instant $50 voucher.
Free Same Day Change
Primary cardholders are eligible for free same day changes on Alaska Airlines operated flights. This is a savings of $50 per change. If you need to change your flight for any reason, you can change it for free if there is confirmable space on a different flight within 24 hours of your original departure. This is much better than waiting on standby.
Award Booking Fee Waiver
Alaska normally charges $12.50 per person each way for partner award bookings. The primary cardholder gets this fee waived.
Global Entry/TSA PreCheck Credit
Like other ultra premium this card comes with a $120 credit for your Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee once every 4 years. As always, I recommend getting Global Entry which comes with TSA PreCheck.

My Thoughts
This is a stellar airline card and one that make sense to keep long term. Besides the massive 100,000 point signup bonus, the annual perks more than make up for the annual fee. I book a ton of flights with Alaska miles and having essentially a 25,000 point discount on a second ticket would more than justify the annual fee. That doesn’t even account for the 3x points on foreign transactions, the Wifi and lounge passes, as well as waived partner award booking fees.
