Applying for Global Entry for My Daughter
We are going to Europe this summer and figured it was time to apply for Global Entry for my 2 year old daughter especially now that it doesn’t cost anything for children under 18. On the flipside, there are tons of great credit cards that offer a Global Entry fee credit so you shouldn’t be paying for it anyway. Let’s jump into how to apply because while it is extremely easy, it wasn’t what I thought.
How to Apply for Global Entry for Children
In order to get a child Global Entry, the parent or legal guardian must either be a current Global Entry member, or have an application pending. My first thought was to go into my Global Entry membership and add my daughter to it but I was wrong. You need to create a new profile for your child and that means having an email address that is not the one on your own account. Since my personal email was used when I first applied 8 years ago, I couldn’t use that. So I used my FreeQuinnt Flyer email for her.
From there, it was pretty straightforward. What else do you need to have on hand for their application?
The child’s passport
The parent or guardian’s Global Entry PASSID number which is on the back of your physical card or online in your profile.
If the Legal Guardian is not yet approved for Global Entry, you’ll need your application number
Entering in the Legal Guardian’s Information
From there, hopefully you know all the information about your child to complete their application. Once you get to the end of the application, it confirms there is no fee for the child so simply hit submit and you’re on your way.
I’ll update this post when I hear back that she was conditionally approved and how long that took. Next up will be to get her interview completed so her application can be fully approved. Since we don’t yet have a Global Entry office where we live, we’ll likely do this as Global Entry on Arrival where she will complete her interview when we land back stateside this summer. I just learned about another great option which is Global Entry on Departure where you can complete your interview before leaving. Currently there are only two locations, Miami and Washington Dulles.
Wrapping Up
The application process for my daughter’s Global Entry was pretty painless and took maybe five minutes to complete. Less than it took me to write this! The parent or legal guardian does need to currently be enrolled in Global Entry or have an application pending. Additionally, the child will need to have their own profile created in order to apply. Best of all, it doesn’t cost them anything.
